4 Steps I Took On My Journey Towards Personal Growth

Discover Yourself

Self discovery is the prerequisite of self improvement. You are an ever-changing being who is constantly curating your preferences based on the experiences you have. Self discovery helps you keep fresh eyes and continue to learn yourself so you can make decisions that are right for you.

When you are aware of who you are you can easily navigate what to learn, develop, and improve within your character. One of the best ways to discover yourself is through journaling.

By journaling for self-understanding and awareness I was able to take control of my life and define who I was going to be, what I was going to do, and what I was allowed to have.

Try New Things

When I first met my husband, he would often say “The magic happens outside your comfort zone.” He’s totally right. It does!

A few years ago, I decided it was time to let my social anxiety go and made the decision to put myself in uncomfortable situations and try new things. As I continuously did this, eventually I was able to go out on my own without overthinking and experiencing crippling anxiety. I started my own endeavors, made my own friends, and got completely comfortable standing out on my own.

When you try new things you are opening yourself to a ton of possibilities. You may discover new interests, overcome fears, meet new people, spark your creativity, or develop new skills.

Create A Movement Routine

Developing yourself physically is an easy way to get started on your personal growth journey and may provide you with a boost of confidence, more energy, and a clearer mind.

At the beginning of my journey, creating a movement routine was one of the first things I did. Working out helped me gain discipline and gave me something to look forward to. I’m a firm believer that if you look good you feel good but most importantly the feel-good part.

Set Goals

Honestly, for years I didn’t have many goals. I was very content with my life and it suited me. It wasn’t until I took full control of my life and the direction I was heading in that I started to set goals. Setting goals has allowed me to accomplish way more than I was in route for.

When you set goals you are committed to ensuring that your efforts are followed through on. You can set a goal to try one of these four things and you’ll be on to self-improvement in no time.

    Mistakes people make while on their personal growth journey

    There’s no way I’m going to tell you how to start on your self-development journey without also warning you what not to do on the way. These simple yet very common mistakes can keep you behind when you’re working on self-improvement.

    Following Every Trend

    One of the easiest ways that will slow you down on your journey of growth is doing what you see everyone else is doing. Your personal growth journey is unique to you. Stay true to yourself and do what works for you. As you discover yourself you will learn what does and doesn’t work for you and if you keep track of that it will save you from wasting a lot of time copying everyone else.

    Comparing Your Progress To Others

    We have all heard comparison is the thief of joy. If you want to have a sense of peace and remain proud of yourself throughout your personal growth journey, don’t compare your journey to someone else’s. Compare your journey to where you were before and you will find fulfillment in what you can control.

    Spend Too Much Time Researching

    When first starting anything new it’s common to want to know more. But this need to know more can turn into analysis paralysis. That’s when you do too much research without taking action. Is this the 4th self-improvement blog you’ve read? Well, it’s time to take a break from researching and implement one of the hacks above.
